\"photoI hadn’t realised until recently, how many hedgehogs we have living around us.\u00a0 These incredibly shy animals are rarely seen.\u00a0 Mischief the Labrador has\u00a0this month,\u00a0developed a real skill for sniffing them out. She then\u00a0barks uncontrollably at these moving\u00a0balls of prickles that\u00a0she discovers.\u00a0 Without her nose, I am afraid, I haven’t spotted\u00a0any hedgehogs\u00a0in the last 10 years.\u00a0 We would have preferred\u00a0Mischief to be a truffle hunter, which would have helped vastly with our foraging.\u00a0 However to see a hedgehog is special enough. \u00a0I\u00a0am surprised\u00a0about how large they are, much bigger than the fist of my hand. \u00a0I keep wondering how I could have missed this creature for so long? \u00a0Maybe, if\u00a0you are quiet and patient, sitting outside the hut after dusk, perhaps\u00a0you might be lucky enough to spot one too.<\/p>\n

\"photoWith summer now upon us, the hedges are growing wildly.\u00a0 In some parts they are like triffids threatening to take over.\u00a0 The promise is\u00a0there, for all the berries they might provide in future months as well as the nests that they are hiding now.\u00a0 You can hear the birds rustling in their hidden nests and the dawn chorus is a real cacophony of sound.\u00a0 Although it does mean that walks are more limited as most paths are overgrown.\u00a0\u00a0You need full body covering to take a short stroll.\u00a0 In the current heat, the option of no scratches but melting inside thick clothing or a light summery\u00a0outfit but multiple marks on arms and legs is not easy to choose between.<\/p>\n

\"PhotoPerhaps it is easier, in these heady heat filled days, to just sit back, relax and enjoy the park.\u00a0\u00a0Make\u00a0no effort to move too far at all. With luck, the wildlife might then come to you rather than you\u00a0expending energy trying to\u00a0seek it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
